Pauls Valley had No. 9 Bethany on the ropes for a half, but the Bronchos got hot at the start of the second half with three straight three-pointers to blow open the game and roll to a 50-30 win.
The Panthers had a big first quarter behind the offensive play of Genesis Meave and Carter Tate. Meave had five quick points and Tate knocked down back-to-back three points to give PV the early lead. The Panther defense did a great job on the much taller Bethany squad limiting them to one shot on offense.
Meave’s late basket gave the Panthers a 14-10 first quarter lead.
Pauls Valley’s offense started falling off in the second quarter but the defense helped them keep pace with the Bronchos. The Panther defense clamped down again in the second quarter limiting Bethany to only 10 points. Pauls Valley only scored six points in the quarter but went into the locker room tied at 20.
The Bethany offense came to life to start the second half as they hit 5-of-8 shots in the quarter including 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point line. Bethany’s defense also picked up the pressure and held the Panthers to six points as they opened up a 10-point lead.
The Panther offense continued to struggle in the fourth scoring only four points and Bethany pulled away for a 20-point win.
