Mary Lorene Prater

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Mary Lorene Prater, 65, of Cowden, Illinois passed away at 8:02 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at her residence.

Private family services will be held Friday at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden, with Rev Tim Boyd officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American cancer Society, Cowden First Responders or Mary Prater Memorial Fund % Community Banks of Shelby County, Shelbyville, Illinois.

She was born December 29, 1947 in Pauls Valley, Okla., the daughter of J.D. and Thelma Lorene (Sutton) Cox. She married George P Prater March 27, 1984 in Foster, Okla.

She attended the Pentecostal church. She was a homemaker and loved to sew and raise chickens and goats.

Surviving are her husband George; sons Bruce Russell of Herrick and Rick Russell of Cowden; brothers Jerry Cox of Lindsay, Okla., and James D. (Dudley) Cox of Herrick; sisters, Jeannie Mascher of Herrick and Nita Lois Yates of Spartanburg, S.C.; three step-children Roger Dale, Sue and Barbara all of Oklahoma and Georgina of Oregon; 5 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Danny Ray Cox of Ocala, Fla.; and grandson James D Russell of Lindsay, Okla.

Pauls Valley Wall Cloud

As severe weather barreled through areas like Pauls Valley today it was late afternoon during a tornado warning when residents were asked to take cover. Here a wall cloud with rotation is spotted near the Loves Truck Stop at Exit 70 on I-35. An all clear was later sounded.
