Meds listed as cause of accident

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Authorities believe it was driving under the influence of medication that caused a Lindsay man to take his car off a highway Thursday afternoon near Pauls Valley.

Seriously hurt in the one-vehicle accident was 28-year-old Justin Ray Holden.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows Holden was alone while driving a 1997 Honda Civic southbound on Interstate 35.

Just after 4:30 p.m. March 14 the car went off the roadway to the right on the south side of Pauls Valley.

Specifically the site was about a mile south of the local Airline Road.

According to troopers, once the car went off the road it first struck a ditch and then a fence.

When the vehicle came to rest it was approximately 85 feet west of the interstate highway.

Holden was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in serious condition with head, trunk internal and leg injuries.

With Holden listed as not wearing seat belts at the time, it was driving under the influence of a drug that is suspected of causing the accident.

The OHP accident report shows the condition of Holden was he drove “under the influence of medication.”

Assisting OHP Trooper Doug George of the Garvin/Murray County Detachment at the scene were Garvin County deputies and Pauls Valley firefighters and E.M.S.
