Dream season ends at the “Big House”

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The dream season for the Lindsay Leopardettes came to an end Thursday in the “Big House” as they ran into the No. 1 team in Class 3A the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs.

Sulphur (28-0) had three players in double figures as they pulled away in the second half for a 65-46 win. Brittany Lujan and Molly Hibbard scored in double figures for Lindsay who finish with a 20-9 record.

Lindsay and Sulphur exchanged blows early in the game. Four of the five Leopardette starters got into the scoring column with senior Macey Hatfield leading the way with 5 points.

Lindsay had an early lead in the game but Sulphur stormed back behind Ashley Hughes and Bailee Eldred who both had five points each.

Sulphur started pulling away in the second quarter but Hibbard kept Lindsay within striking distance with 6 big points in the paint.

Lujan had six of her team high 15 points in the third quarter to help keep the Leopardettes in the game. Sulphur extended their lead out to double digits in the quarter behind seven points from Tierani Richardson.

Lindsay struggled to find the bottom of the net in the fourth quarter as Sulphur pushed their lead out to 20 points. Lindsay cut the lead back under 20 points but couldn’t close the gap in tighter as Sulphur went on for a 19-point win.
