Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Jim Lee Coffey, 83, of Elmore City, Oklahoma passed away on January 29, 2013, at his home.

Jim was born east of Elmore City on September 3, 1929 to Frank and Rena Coffey. He and his family moved to the Love community in 1936, where he attended his first eight years of school. He graduated from high school in Elmore City and then went on to East Central College in Ada, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education.

Jim started teaching at Kellyville, Oklahoma, with subsequent positions at Pernell, Doyle, Elmore City and Wynnewood, Oklahoma. He taught Industrial Education for many years before he retired from teaching in 1987, as principal of the Wynnewood Elementary School.

Jim met his spouse, Helen, at a church meeting held at the Love School. They married in 1953 and made their first home at a teacherage in Pernell, Oklahoma. Their daughters, Janice and Carla, were born while Jim was teaching school in Elmore City.

After retirement, Jim spent much of his time on his farm raising cattle, driving his dozer and tractor, or just riding his four-wheeler. Over the years Jim enjoyed fishing, vacationing in the Rocky Mountains, and playing the mandolin with a group of musicians for senior citizens in nursing homes.

Jim is survived by his spouse, Helen of Elmore City; a granddaughter, Ralyn Stephens and her spouse Daniel of Stillwater, Oklahoma; a grandson, Bobby Bradburn of Dallas, Texas; two great-grandchildren, MaKezzah and Luke Stephens of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one niece and two nephews, as well as their children; and many cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his two daughters, Janice Coffey and Carla Coffey Miles; a sister, Ethel Morphew; and his parents, Frank and Rena Coffey.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Elmore City Church of Christ. Minister Joe Terrell of Elmore City will be officiating.

Helen and the family will receive guests at Wooster Funeral Home in Elmore City on Friday, February 1, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will follow the funeral at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Oklahoma Medical Research, 825 NE 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK, 73104-9930 or Westview Boys Home, PO Box 553, Hollis, OK, 73550-0553.
