Tour brings in the holidays

By Barry Porterfield

Certain to get anyone into a festive spirit for the holiday season is the upcoming tour of select homes in the Pauls Valley area.

Scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 is the annual Holiday Home Tour arranged by Main Street Pauls Valley.

Along with visits to five area homes, the tour features a bake sale and door prizes at the Santa Fe Depot.

The tour is more than just a fundraiser for Main Street, Director Samantha Robb says. It also offers a great way of get into the holiday spirit.

Five homeowners have agreed to open up their homes to the public for Sunday afternoon visitors.

“We’ve been doing this for well over a decade, ever since our Main Street first became Main Street,” Robb said. “It’s a neat, fun way to support your Main Street program. It’s one of the things that helps us keep our doors open, lights on and keeps us working to promote downtown Pauls Valley.”

This year’s tour schedule includes the homes of:

• Sharon and Ernest Johnson, Hamilton Road.

• Kim and Chris Pool, City Lake Road, east of Pauls Valley.

• Tye and Lorin Jacobson, 614 N. Walnut St.

• Lou and Jim Mayfield, 315 N. Elm St.

• Racheal and Wiley Winters, 29 Quail Road, Eastridge Country Estates in Paoli.

For Robb the anticipation is high for Sunday’s event since last year’s tour was her first.

“To me it was really neat to go in and see how they added on to a historic home. It’s a great way to get ideas on how to decorate,” she said.

“It’s also just a fun thing to go in and see some of these homes, find out more on the history of the house.”

Advance tickets at $8 each are available at the Main Street office at 103 S. Willow St. or the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce, 112 E. Paul Ave.

Maps of the tour can be picked up at any of the homes, the depot or the Main Street office.

Advance tickets aren’t necessary. People can buy tickets on Sunday at any of the tour homes or the depot. On Sunday, tickets sell for $10.
