One vote down, others coming

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — One election down and another on the way as Lindsay voters determined a council race, while other municipal votes and a school runoff will come early next month.

Voters in Lindsay made their choices known Tuesday as five candidates were vying for four seats on the local council.

The top vote-getter was Brandon Fentem with 267 votes, which represents nearly 25 percent of the ballots cast Tuesday.

Also earning council seats were Todd Hinckley with 249 votes (22.8 percent), Anthony Adams with 211 votes (19.4 percent) and Betty L. Foster with 207 votes (19 percent).

Finishing in the final spot and off the council was Jake Pool, who collected 156 votes (14.3 percent).

Results for the election are expected to be made official on Friday, according to Garvin County Election officials.

Next up for area voters are municipal elections on April 2 in Pauls Valley, Elmore City and Stratford.

On that same early April date is a school board runoff vote in Wynnewood.

The final day to register to vote in the upcoming election is Friday, March 8.

Voter application forms are available at the Election Board office in the county courthouse in PV, online at the Oklahoma Election Board website or at tag agencies.

Completed forms must be returned in person or by mail to the Election Board office in PV.

The deadline to apply to get mailed ballots for the election is March 27.

In Pauls Valley there are a couple of posts on the local city council up for grabs. In both cases incumbents are seeking new four-year terms.

Mayor Tim Gamble is set to go against Patrick Grimmett in one race, while the other has Councilman Hal Blevins going against Jeff Paine and Zachary Brumley.

More on each candidate will be featured this month in the PV Democrat starting with Blevins in today’s edition.

A total of three races are currently set in Elmore City.

One is between Searcy J. Simmons Jr. and David K. Schmidt for the Ward 1 office on EC’s town council. The office has a four-year term.

It’s a three-candidate race for the Ward 4 two-year unexpired term on the council with Tim Clark, Tony E. Brister and Victoria Wampler.

Incumbent mayor in Elmore City, Larry Dale Cleveland, will go against Joel E. Crawford.

The single race in Stratford is for town treasurer between Sharon Bellew and David Alberson.

Wynnewood voters will decide between Terry Brown and Donnie Rollings in a runoff race for the local school board.

Helping meet a need

Acting as an example of the kindness that has resulted from a request for donations from Main Street Pauls Valley, local resident Holley Sanders is seen here helping carry supplies along with Paramedic John Stegall to her truck earlier this morning. EMS through Pauls Valley General Hospital is another local organization that has helped gather items and take it to the Main Street Office at the corner of Paul and Walnut Streets. "Two friends of mine lost their homes and I felt for them," said Sanders, who is among those who have offered to take items to a drop off site in Norman. "I wanted to do something." More information will be included in stories and photos in Thursday's edition of the PV Democrat. A list of needed items can be found here: http://mainstreetpaulsvalley.com/
