Panthers win 6th straight

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Pauls Valley Panthers continued to roll on the diamond winning their sixth straight with a 7-2 win over Little Axe Monday at Wacker Baseball Stadium in Pauls Valley.

The Panthers got a great outing from left handed freshman Tyler Butts. Butts gave up two runs on five hits. He struck out two and didn’t walk any in 6 and a third innings.

Ty Knight came in to finish up the game giving up two hits in two-thirds of an inning . All together the PV pitchers gave up 2 runs on seven hits striking out two and walking none.

After Butts retired the side in order in the top of the first, PV jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Ty Knight singled on a 2-2 pitch to start the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on David Flores single.

PV would add two more runs to their total in the second. Tanner Hamilton walked to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jesse Williamson.

Hamilton scored as Cody Ward reached on an error. Ward took second on another error and scored on Drake O’Bryant’s single.

Little Axe got on the scoreboard in the top of the third. Smith started the inning with a single and scored on Trevor Yates two out double.

PV added two more runs in the fifth. Daniel Brown reached on an error and scored on triple to straight away center by Treston Williams. A suicide squeeze from Hamilton scored Williams giving PV a 5-1 lead.

The Panthers added two insurance runs in sixth. Knight would start the inning with a double. He move to third on a wild pitch.

Flores was hit with a pitch to put runners on at the corners. Flores advanced to second and both he and Knight scored on Williams’ single for a 7-1 lead.

Little Axe got a run in the top of the seventh. Roolston single to start the inning. After a fly out, Butts left the mound giving the game over to the right handed senior Knight.

Knight’s second pitch was doubled down the third base line scoring Roolston. Little Axe would get another hit in the inning as Blakey singled with two outs but not deep enough to score Smith. Knight got a ground out to end the game with PV on top 7-2.

Knight and Williams both had two hits apiece to lead the Panthers. Flores and Brown added the other hits.

Pauls Valley will be on the road at Wynnewood this afternoon as they face the Savages. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Pauls Valley Wall Cloud

As severe weather barreled through areas like Pauls Valley today it was late afternoon during a tornado warning when residents were asked to take cover. Here a wall cloud with rotation is spotted near the Loves Truck Stop at Exit 70 on I-35. An all clear was later sounded. Stay tuned for more information in future edition of the Pauls Valley Democrat.
