WW edges ECP in overtime

marie@pvdemocrat.com — Ivana Gary got a rebound and a put back at the buzzer to send the Wynnewood Lady Savages into overtime with the Elmore City-Pernell Lady Badgers. It was all Wynnewood in the four-minute extra session as they pulled away from ECP for a 56-49 win.

The game was a foul fest and Elmore City had a chance to win the game in regulation. In the final 30 second the Lady Badgers managed to make only 1-of-4 from the charity stripe leaving the door wide open for the Lady Savages.

Wynnewood got a good look in the lane in the final five seconds but the shot was long and Gary got the rebound and put the ball back to send the game to overtime.

There were 55 fouls called between the two teams and 67 free throws shot including the front end of a 1-and-1 miss. Elmore had an awful night at the line hitting only 13-of-30 while Wynnewood was just over 50-percent at 20-of-37.

The game was back-and-forth all night with neither team able to pull away from the other. Wynnewood held a slight advantage after the first quarter and ECP rallied for a one-point half time lead.

Wynnewood opened up a lead again to start the second half and ECP rallied once again late in the half to grab the lead.

Free throw shooting down the stretch kept ECP from pulling away. They hit only 5-of-12 in the quarter and 1-of-4 in the final 30 seconds.

Challen Carter hit a basket in the final minute to cut the lead to one for the Lady Savages. Raylee McCaskill gave ECP a two-point cushion with a free throw with under 20 seconds remaining.

Gary then hit the shot that sent the Wynnewood crowd into frenzy and that momentum carried over into the overtime.

Wynnewood got to the free throw line 16 times in the fourth quarter hitting 9 of those attempts and pulling away for the win.

Hannah Rose led all scorers with 14 points for the Lady Savages. Gary was the only other Lady Savage in double figures as she finished with 10. Avery added 9, T. Burrough 7, C. Carter 6, J. Carter 4, Lindsey 3 and Helpingstine 2.

Morgan Lewis paced the Lady Badgers with 12. Cali Nelson was the only other Lady Badger in double figures finishing with 10. Jimenez added 7, five in the overtime, Landers 6, Herrod 5, McCaskill 4, Burks 2 and Walck 2.
