Arthur Gerald Lewis

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Arthur Gerald Lewis, 81, was called home to Heaven on January 30, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born to Arthur G. and Stella Lewis on November 21, 1931, in Dillard, Okla.

He graduated high school in Sheridan, Texas. After attending Bethany Peniel College for one year, he joined the United States Air Force, where he met his best friend, Ray Bell. They have remained best friends until this time.

After serving 4 years, he went back to college, earning his degree in Engineering from OCU. After working at Tinker Air Force Base, he transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration as an electronics engineer, working there until his retirement in 1978.

Art loved to fly and had his own airplane for many years. He also loved to farm and raise cattle, which he did in Cashion, Okla., for at least 20 years.

In the last few years, they moved to Hennepin, Okla., and became heavily involved with the First Baptist Church of Elmore City, Okla. He became a Deacon and the Sr. Adult Minister of the church.

He married Margaret Dice on April 1, 1955. They were blessed with 2 children – Diane and Rick; 5 grandchildren – Bradley, Heather and James Carr; Ricky and London Lewis; and 4 great-grandchildren – Veronica, Jesse, Jaime and Reina Carr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 2 brothers and a grandson, James.

He leaves behind his wife, Margaret of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and James Carr of Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Shelly Lewis of Ringling; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a lot of friends.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church of Elmore City at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 2, with interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore.
