Inside game leads ECP to title

marie@pvdemocrat.com — The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers dominated the paint with three players in double figures as they defeated the Healdton Bulldogs 75-64 in the district championship game Saturday.

Josh Hair came off the bench to score 16 points all in the paint to lead the Badgers with 18 points. Quinton Stueart added 17, 16 of those coming in the paint. Shane Collins also had 17 points 14 of those coming the paint. In all ECP had 46 points in the paint from their inside players

The game was back-and-forth early in the game. Elmore had the early lead behind Stueart’s six points but Healdton fought back late behind four points from Chris Choate’s for a 17-15 lead at the end of the quarter.

Elmore City turned up the pressure on defense and Hair got involved in the offense with eight points. McCaskill kept Healdton honest by knocking down a pair of three point baskets.

The Badgers started the quarter strong and finished the same way scoring 23 points to take a 39-29 half time lead.

Elmore kept up the pressure in the third quarter as Stueart got rolling again with six points. Zac Burks had 7 in the quarter to lead the way as ECP opened up a 59-43 lead heading into the final 8 minutes.

Healdton made a run in the fourth quarter early but the Badgers responded as Hair got six points in the four-corner offense.

The reserves finished up the game and Noah Schmidt kept the Badgers going in the paint with four late points as ECP went on for an 11-point win.

ECP faces Tipton on Thursday in Chattanooga. Tipton upset Chattanooga in the district finals to advance to the regional winner’s bracket game.

A Truck full of Relief

Joining a donation drive at the Main Street Pauls Valley office Wednesday morning, Pauls Valley General Hospital EMTs like John Stegall (left) and Jordan Beeman help load bottles of water and Gatorade into this pickup truck bed before it was driven off to a distribution point in Norman by area resident Holley Sanders. It is another example of the support that continues to flood in, with the hospital’s involvement organized by EMT Jeff Luker.
